Offline Lab Notebook Viewer#

BenchVault includes a read-only viewer for notebook copies it has backed up. The viewer is designed for review when LabArchives, the network, or a user’s normal workstation access is unavailable.

Viewer Goals#

  • Browse backed-up notebook structure and page text.

  • Review comments and attachment records.

  • Preview common research file types from the local copy.

  • Copy preserved original attachment files out of the backup for inspection.

  • Search notebook text, comments, file names, and metadata without opening LabArchives.

Attachment Preview Breadth#

The viewer handles browser-friendly files such as images, PDFs, text, and tables, then adds local research previews for additional formats where possible: FASTA, Sanger trace files, chemistry files, spreadsheets, Jupyter notebooks, archives, TIFF files, media files, and instrument-style exports.

Unknown formats are still preserved as files when they are present in the backup, even if BenchVault cannot preview them visually yet.

Read-Only Boundary#

The viewer does not provide editing controls and does not write back to LabArchives. Its job is to make a backed-up copy easier to inspect offline.
