BenchVault public beta

Full-size LabArchives backups you can read offline. Preserve original attachments, preview research files, search local readable copies, and get warnings if protected backup files change later.

BenchVault read-only viewer showing a verified local notebook backup
Read backed-up notebook pages, check the copy status, and copy preserved originals without writing to LabArchives.
Beta note: macOS prerelease builds are unsigned and not notarized yet. Download only from the GitHub release page and compare the checksum when possible. This project is built for the FedRAMP-authorized LabArchives environment used at NIH, but the app uses the shorter name LabArchives.
Software archive: BenchVault releases are archived on Zenodo. Stable DOI: 10.5281/zenodo.20329338.
1 Open the demo

Try the bundled synthetic notebook before entering credentials.

2 Choose a backup folder

Keep local backups outside the source repository.

3 Back up owned notebooks

Full-size backup is generally owner-only at NIH.

Backup

Full-size local copies

Download eligible LabArchives backup archives and preserve original attachment files.

Review

Read-only viewer

Read pages, comments, and attachment records offline during outages, travel, or low-connectivity review without offering LabArchives write-back.

Preview

Lab file previews

Inspect CSV, FASTA, Sanger traces, chemistry files, PDFs, Office files, notebooks, images, archives, and media from the local copy.

Search

Local plus AI-assisted

Search locally by default. Add an AI API key locally for answers that link back to source pages.

Evidence

Tamper-evident copy

Seal protected local backup files and warn if the copy changes after backup.

For notebook owners

Start with the backup workflow.

For reviewers and maintainers

Review the verification model.
